As you write out your plot and even as
you conclude your first draft, you should ask yourself whether you
are still excited about the characters you've written. If, by the end
of your writing, you realize that you are a little bored of your
characters, then it is a good idea to go back into your story and add
in a new character or two to bring more out of your existing
characters. Or, if you're still flexible with your plot, you might
also want to create a few situations that will challenge your
characters internally, forcing them to deal with their fears,
morality, personal pride, or other aspects of their personality that
you have yet to explore.
